HYPER HOP

Grab the orbs. Dodge everything else. Jump to be untouchable.

Hyper Hop is a one-screen arcade dodger where every orb you grab makes the arena meaner. Rolling logs, lasers, homing bombs, lightning, black holes, even a ghost that retraces your own steps. The room keeps filling up until something gets you. Then you spend what you earned, come back stronger and go again.

Your only trick is the hop. For half a second in the air, nothing on the ground can touch you. Time it right and you sail over a laser as it fires. Time it wrong and you land on it.

FEATURES

22 hazards, each with a clear warning before it hits. Most of them can be jumped. Lightning, meteors and black holes can't, and sky mines float at jump height, so walk under them and never jump into them. You can even squash the chasers by landing on top of them.

Every level you reach in a run banks a point. Spend your points in the shop on 12 permanent upgrades, including extra hearts, faster sneakers, a magnet, lucky gold orbs, a bubble shield, double jump and a second chance.

Three modes. Classic adds a new hazard with every other orb. Chaos throws all 22 at you from the first second. Zen keeps only the five gentlest hazards and brings them in slowly.

The main menu is a toy too. It's a window made of hundreds of little tiles, lying on an ice-slick floor, and you can shove it into the walls and bounce on it before you press play.

There's also a hazard codex that fills in as you meet each hazard, four colour palettes (including a light one and a colour-blind-safe one) and a synthwave soundtrack that builds as your score climbs.

CONTROLS

Mouse: the blob follows the cursor, left click jumps.

Keyboard: WASD or the arrow keys move, Space jumps, Esc pauses.

Controller: the left stick moves, A jumps, Start pauses.

Touch: drag on the left side to move, tap the right side to jump.

VR: the thumbstick moves, the trigger jumps, B pauses.

PLATFORMS

Windows: download HyperHop.exe and run it. F11 toggles fullscreen.

Android: download HyperHop.apk and allow installs from unknown sources. Touch and Bluetooth controllers both work.

Meta Quest: sideload the same HyperHop.apk with SideQuest. It opens the game in Quest Browser, where you point at Enter VR and pull the trigger. The arena becomes a table in front of you with your hopper standing on it in 3D. If you'd rather play on a big screen, switch VR View to Screen in the options and you get a floating monitor you can grab, move and resize with the grip buttons.

Hyper Hop is a fan-made take on HYPER JUMP by Edgar Mendoza (edgarmendoza.itch.io/hyper-jump). Go play the original! This version more than doubles the hazards and adds the shop, the upgrades, new modes, controller, touch, mouse and VR support, and a new look.
